Listening to Okinawa is a growing archive for karate practitioners who want to understand Okinawan karate beyond technique alone.
Rooted in Seibukan lineage and open to other Okinawan traditions, the archive explores the culture, history, relationships, and training principles that shape Okinawa’s martial arts while welcoming thoughtful contributions from practitioners, teachers, and researchers. Seibukan preserves Chotoku Kyan’s teachings through Zenryo and Zenpo Shimabukuro. Through Zenpo’s studies with Chozo Nakama, additional kata from Kobayashi, Itosu, Chibana, and Motobu traditions were also preserved, reflecting Okinawan karate’s broader history of shared knowledge, lineage, exchange, and respect for those who came before.
